MEET BRET WELTY

A Musician, Sound Engineer, and Teacher with a Heart for Worship

Sound Harvest was created to help churches simplify the technical and musical side of worship. Led by Bret Welty, Sound Harvest equips worship teams, sound volunteers, and church leaders with practical training, PA system support, and simple systems that help worship flow with clarity and confidence.

HELLO

Hi, I’m Bret.

I started out as a performing musician before I got saved at 17, and more than 40 years later, I’m still playing for Jesus in my local church and in the community.

I love live music, worship, and sound. Through Sound Harvest, I help churches and worship teams keep the technical side of worship where it belongs — supporting the message, serving the people, and creating space for worship in Spirit and truth.

Worship should be simple, authentic, from the heart, and expressed in spirit and truth.

WHO WE ARE

Helping Churches Create Clearer, Simpler Worship Environments

Sound Harvest focuses on enriching worship experiences through practical sound training, worship team support, and PA system tuning. Churches benefit from hands-on guidance that improves audio quality, strengthens team confidence, and helps worship services and events run more smoothly.

Our workshops and training sessions are tailored to the unique needs of each church community, so the support is practical, relevant, and easy for your team to apply.

Our Mission

To help churches simplify worship sound, strengthen their teams, and create worship environments where the message and music can be heard clearly.

Our Approach

We come alongside your church with tailored workshops, hands-on training, and practical systems designed around your people, your room, and your equipment.

Our Expertise

Sound Harvest brings together years of experience in music, audio training, PA tuning, and worship team development to help sound personnel serve with confidence.

MY STORY

From Musician to Sound Engineer to Church Sound Trainer

Bret’s music journey began early. He took his first guitar lessons in second grade in Corvallis, Oregon, then rediscovered his passion for music as a teenager and played his first gig shortly after turning 15. From garage bands and regular rehearsals to college jazz studies and recording work, music became a central part of his life.

Over the years, Bret has played bass, guitar, mandolin, and drums for bands and church worship teams. He has also worked as a recording engineer, toured and recorded in Nashville, released albums, taught more than a thousand students, and played more than 2,000 gigs.

Since 2000, Bret has led Sound Harvest, which began as a sound training business and grew into a broader service for churches needing training, design, installation, and practical worship sound support.

LIVING WITH PURPOSE, REST, AND FAITH

Guided by a Calling to Serve

Living with Purpose

My calling is to simplify the complicated—making music and sound technology accessible to anyone called to serve as a musician or sound technician. I teach Worship and Sound seminars in churches, dial in PA systems, train sound staff, and work with worship teams on self-arranging—playing roles instead of rigid arrangements, learning how to lead and follow.

I’m not a fan of tech “fixing” what is already simple in worship. Life is about the living, not the tech. I pour my time and training into people, equipping them to answer the call no matter the environment.

Rest, Renewal, and Mission

How do I do it?  I prioritize rest—sleep is non-negotiable for me. I was out of balance in caring for myself, and embracing rest has been the key to setting the dominoes up for success.  Everything good—sanity, health, clarity—follows. I deeply love serving my community, family, and friends, and I’m grateful for the amazing people in my life.

I believe each of us has a singular mission: to fulfill the calling God has placed on our lives. Obstacles will come, but God equips us with everything we need. We’re not here to measure giants or give weather reports in a storm—we’re here to slay giants and walk on water.

Faith and Commitment

In spite of the mistakes of my past, I trust in the resurrection power of Jesus. His forgiveness and grace are sufficient for me. Through study, I’ve embraced four pillars that guide me: Faith, Obedience, Courage, and Unity.  That’s the secret sauce for creating Holy Ground.
